Terms of Service
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of SnailRead (the "App"), operated by Yevhen Lebediev, a private entrepreneur (ФОП) registered in Ukraine, individual tax identification number XXXXXXXXXX, trading under the brand name Startpoint ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading or using SnailRead, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
The app
SnailRead is a reader for PDFs and EPUBs with optional AI features. You can read your own library locally for free; certain features (sync, customization, AI) require a paid subscription as described on our pricing page.
Your account
You sign in with Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID secure; we treat any action taken from your account as taken by you. You may close your account at any time by contacting support@startpoint.dev.
Subscriptions and purchases
Paid plans are sold through the Apple App Store. Pricing is displayed in your local currency at checkout.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Manage or cancel. You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your Apple device.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at purchase and at each renewal.
- Refunds. Refunds are issued by Apple under their policy. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Lifetime. The Plus "lifetime" purchase grants Plus features for as long as SnailRead remains operational on the App Store.
- Family Sharing. Plus, AI, and AI Pro subscriptions support Apple Family Sharing.
AI features and credits
Paid tiers include a monthly allowance of AI credits, refreshed at the start of each billing period. Unused credits do not roll over. AI features rely on third-party model providers; we may switch providers, models, or pricing for new requests at any time. We will not retroactively change credits you've already been granted within the current period.
AI responses are generated by language models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for important decisions. Treat them as a reading aid, not authoritative information.
Your content
The books, highlights, and notes you create or import remain yours. SnailRead claims no ownership over them, syncs them through your private Apple iCloud, and does not access them on our servers (see our Privacy Policy).
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to read and process any content you bring into the app — for example, that you legally own the books you import.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use SnailRead to violate any law or third-party right (including copyright)
- Attempt to bypass paywalls, license checks, or Apple's purchase system
- Resell, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the app beyond what applicable law permits
- Use AI features to generate content that infringes others' rights, is harmful, or is otherwise prohibited by the underlying model providers' terms
- Abuse the service to extract more usage than your tier allows (e.g. through automation)
We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially violate these rules.
Service availability
SnailRead's reading and annotation features work offline. iCloud sync and AI features depend on third-party services (Apple, RevenueCat, AI providers) that may be temporarily unavailable. We do our best to keep things running but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.
Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that AI responses will be accurate, or that your data will never be lost — back up anything irreplaceable. Apple iCloud handles your library sync; we are not responsible for iCloud outages or data loss within Apple's systems.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Startpoint will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of SnailRead. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for SnailRead in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited (e.g. liability for gross negligence or for breach of mandatory consumer rights in your jurisdiction).
Termination
You can stop using SnailRead at any time. We can suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these terms or if continuing to provide the service is unlawful. On termination, sections that by their nature survive (including disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law) continue to apply.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app or by email. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Startpoint is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence still apply where required.
App Store terms
SnailRead is distributed via the Apple App Store. Apple's Media Services Terms also apply to your download and purchase. If there is a conflict between these terms and Apple's, Apple's terms control for matters related to the App Store itself.
